A-Congkak-Playscape is a multi-player playscape building game contained within a reinterpretation of the traditional game, “Congkak”. It comprises 3d-printed game pieces sourced from the past, present and future of Malaysia’s urban morphology. From concrete mushroom parasols to ambiguous concrete play structures, the pieces represent an abstraction of elements from Malaysia’s ever changing built environment. Played out on a multitiered game platform, it seeks to engage audiences with the logics of creating new environments for play, whether young or old.
“A Congkak Playscape” was exhibited as part of ‘PLAY!-Tomorrow’s Tropical Cities’. Held at the National Design Center, Singapore. Curated by Syafiq Jubri and Nicole Teh of the DSG Associates Network.
