A key aspect when designing this prototype passport was to expand the passport’s functionality. We opted for a traditional booklet form plus a detachable external hardcase. This external hardcase would behave as a ‘double’ to the original passport. It contains the same contactless smart card chip embedded within the traditional booklet form, hence storing the same data when scanned and updated.
We envisioned a passport that could be split into two (2) identical parts. The rationale behind this was simple: when travelling abroad, a person’s passport becomes their main, if not only source of authenticating their identity.
